Barbie and Isla reuniting was so anti-climatic. She had such a strong bond with her in Dolphin Magic, and it was just like on hug as they met again and then no more great interactions honestly. They had great chemistry which is why so many people shipped them. Honestly Brooklyn is cool but she's making Barbie neglect all her old friends.

Marc Spector was a name that made your eyes burn from how hard you rolled them every time you heard it. Even the thought of him and his sh*t eating grin made you want to pound your fist against a wall. However, you never did because he wasn’t worth bruising your knuckles nor putting a fresh dent in the wall.��

Years ago, your best friend, Sam, and his boyfriend, Bucky, set you and Marc up on a blind date. They figured that if they set up their best friends together, you all could go on fun double dates together. It was only five minutes into your blind date when you both realized how much you and Marc hated one another. Bucky and Sam were disappointed that it didn’t work out between you both so they tried to keep you both at a distance. That was until they got engaged.

It was no surprise that Sam asked you to be his maid of honor and Bucky asked Marc to be his best man. This also meant that you and Marc had to collaborate on making sure the wedding was absolutely perfect. The only obstacle you had to pass was not killing each other before the big day.

The first few times you met with Marc, you resisted the urge to stab him with the nearest object because of his sarcastic remarks. The only thing keeping you from murdering Marc in daylight was the image of your best friend beaming with his new life long partner all thanks to the work you did for him. Eventually, you learned to settle your differences with Marc and work as a team.

By the time Sam and Bucky’s wedding arrived, you and Marc watched your best friends become married. Thankfully, neither of you had a scratch or stab wound in sight. The rest of the wedding was full of love, laughter, and many, many drinks. You and Marc may have had a hard time seeing eye to eye in the beginning, but the one thing you could both agree on was an open bar all night. Unfortunately, it did lead to both Bucky and Sam getting wasted.

The newlyweds couldn’t make their grand exit out the banquet hall because they were stumbling over their steps. As maid of honor and best man, you and Marc stepped in to escort Bucky and Sam to their honeymoon suite at the top floor. While in the elevator, Sam turned to you with his eyelids half open.

“Hey,” he whispered loudly, despite only the four of you occupying the elevator lift. “Did you finally tell Marc that you like him?”

“What?!” you shrieked, face warming up like a tea kettle over fire. Although you fought to avoid Marc’s gaze, you already knew he was snickering with his hands on his hips. Meanwhile, Bucky stared off into space, watching the floor numbers change.

“What do you mean ‘what?’ You literally told me that you were going to take that tie off of him and wrap it around his wrists so you could-”

Ding!

Saved by the bell.

You sighed, “Alrighty, you and Bucky are clearly drunk so let’s get you both to bed.” As the elevator doors opened, you and Marc dragged Bucky and Sam out towards their suite at the end of the hall. Sam giggled hysterically.

“Oh my god, Sam, Marc is soooooo hot!” He pitched his voice so it matched yours. You gritted your teeth as your lips turned into a thin line. He may have been your best friend, but right at that moment, you wanted to murder him more than the man you actually hated.

“Sam, gimme the key so I don’t have to search your pockets.”

“I know who’s pants you want to search though.” Your best friend looked at his equally drunk husband, both of them bursting into a fit of cackles. God, it felt like dealing with two 12-year-olds in grown up bodies. Finally, Marc jumped in.

“C’mon, Sammy.” The exhaustion was apparent in Marc’s voice. “Today has been a blast, but me and the lady need some sleep and would rather do anything other than babysitting you two.”

Sam blew a raspberry in Marc’s face. “What a party pooper.” He rummaged through his pockets, pulling out the key. Your best friend turned to you. “You sure, you wanna bang this guy?”

Blowing off his comment, you snatched the key from him, hovering it over the sensor on the door. As the door unlocked, you glanced over to Marc, mouthing a sincere thank you, in which he just winked smugly at you.

You and Marc managed to guide Bucky and Sam towards the giant king size bed. Bucky and Sam didn’t bother shedding off their tuxes before climbing onto the bed and immediately falling asleep. Loud snores echoed throughout the bedroom, taking that as your sign to escape quickly without a peep.

“Well, that was interesting.” Marc huffed out a breath of relief. You both chuckled in unison without looking at one another.

“That’s Sam for you,” you added. “He talks out of his ass when he’s drunk.” The two of you began walking slowly to the elevator, trying to stall time so you could have more quality time together. By the time you reached the elevator, Marc cleared his throat.

“I don't know about you, but I’m starving. I barely ate during dinner and I have a huge craving for curly fries. Care to join me?” Your stomach rumbled as he mentioned dinner. The same dinner you also neglected since the steak you were looking forward to eating was a little too well for your liking. You nodded, stepping into the elevator before Marc.

“Yeah, I’d love to.”

On the way to the nearest fast food joint that was surprisingly still open, you and Marc talked about the wedding, including all the pros and cons. It was safe to say that the wedding was an overall success, minus Bucky and Sam taking advantage of the open bar. You shared a few laughs with Marc while reminiscing on every single moment of the day. Even though he kept his eyes glued to the road, you took in the way they crinkled when he concentrated.

Then, you began to notice other features that never crossed your mind. He would lightly bite his tongue after hearing your giggles. He’d also run his hand through his dark hair when there was a moment of silence. A few gray hairs peeked through on the side of his head, even on the stubbles of his beard.

Yes, Marc was an extremely handsome man, and also yes, he was starting to grow on you. However, you still couldn’t shake yourself from the blind date that made you hate him all these years. Deep down, you knew it wasn’t fair to hold that grudge, especially with all the progress you have made with Marc. But were you truly ready for something more with the man that gave you hell?

“Hey, sweet pea, what’s on your mind?” That nickname gave you butterflies every time he called you that. He didn’t start referring to you as sweet pea until you started planning the wedding and demanded the DJ to play “Sweet Pea” by Amos Lee as part of the grand entrance playlist.

You brushed your thoughts off with a short laugh. “Oh, I was just thinking about what to order. I’m debating between a sandwich or cheeseburger. Or anything with cheese at this point.”

“Quite the inner conflict, I bet,” Marc joked. “Whatever you want, go ahead and order it. It’s all on me.”

“What? Are you sure?”

“Don’t worry about it, sweet pea. I know you were swamped today so let me treat you.” Your cheeks warmed up and your palms grew clammy.

“Thank you, Marc! Really, I appreciate you for having my back.” Suddenly, your hand was engulfed by Marc’s, his thumb grazing yours gently.

“Consider this a second chance date.”

As you headed back to the hotel, you ate your meals in silence. “Sweet Pea” blasted through the speakers and Marc caught you swaying to the song out of the corner of his eye, your cheeks filled with bites from your cheeseburger. He smiled to himself as he kept driving, sipping on his soda.

Once you arrived back, you had finished eating and fell into the typical fast food coma. You cursed as you exited Marc’s car, the frosty air biting at your exposed arms and legs. Marc rushed to your side, slipping off his jacket and draping it around your shoulders. The heat and smell from his body transferred onto you as you buried yourself into the jacket. A new sensation coursed through your veins, a sensation that you typically felt while thinking of Marc late in the evening. You tried your hardest to ignore it as he walked you to your room.

By the time you were in front of your room, you didn’t want to let go of the warm jacket, nor did you want to let go of this moment with the man you were trying hard to get out of your head. As you were returning the jacket to Marc, he shook his head and pushed it back towards you.

“Go ahead and keep it, sweet pea. I’ll come back and get it in the morning.” He gazed up and down your frame, thinking about how adorable you looked swimming in the jacket.

“Oh, okay. Good, I was still cold anyway.” You fought the urge to stare into his gorgeous gaze. All of a sudden, you were frozen. Your hand tried to reach for the room key in your clutch, but an invisible force was holding you back. Actually, it was just Marc using just one finger to lift your chin, forcing you to look into his eyes.

“I have the feeling that you’re trying not to kiss me and I give you permission to just do it.” This caused you to blink in bewilderment.

“Uhh…excuse me?” You couldn’t believe the words coming out of his mouth.

“Second chance date. Remember?”

You rolled your eyes and backed away from him. “Jesus, Marc, you’re exasperating.”

“Ooh, that’s a big word.” Marc laughed. “I may be exasperating but at least I’m not the one lying to myself.”

Your blood was boiling. For once, you were actually having a more than decent time with him and he decided to ruin it with his stupid remarks. You wanted to spit another insult in his face. You wanted to slap him, punch him even. Instead, you yanked him towards you by the collar and slotted your lips against his.

All logic flew out the window as you pressed your chest against his as his arms wrapped around your waist. His kiss was so intoxicating you could have fainted from the way his tongue slid across your lower lip. Your tongues tangled passionately, all the built up tension releasing for your mind and body. Marc pinned you against the door frame, causing you to snap back to your senses. You pulled away from Marc, catching your breath and straightening your posture.

“Well, there you go.” You threw your hands in the air. “Happy?”

“Unfortunately, no. You didn’t give me a chance to kiss you more.”

“Well, that’s too bad because it’s not gonna happen again.” You reached into your clutch for your room key.

“You sure about that?” Marc asked rhetorically. You paused as Marc leaned his side against the wall. For a brief moment, you actually considered kissing him again right then and there. But where was the fun in that?

You scoffed and shook your head. “Good night, Marc.” Once your room key scanned against the door sensor, you wiggled the doorknob and retreated to your room, not bothering to glance back at Marc’s cheeky smirk.

You shimmied out of the oversized jacket, throwing it over the armrest of the love seat. Then, you changed out of your dress and into a baggy t-shirt and sweatpants. Yet, the touch of Marc’s hands still lingered on your body. No matter how long you brushed your teeth for, your lips still savored the bittersweetness of his mouth. And you found yourself longing for at least one more taste.

God damn that Marc Spector!

Val is, in a word, an enigma. Not in the sense that she’s trying to conceal a mysterious past, a la Irina, but because she is never not living in the moment, and has few quiet moments of self-reflection.

She had an unremarkable childhood just outside Del Sol Valley, and left home as soon as she turned 18. She dropped off the face of the earth for a few years, but eventually resurfaced when she was 21 and landed a small role in a local car dealership commercial. And then seven more.

Since, she’s become somewhat of a local‘celebrity’ in DSV.

She’s always had dreams of becoming famous -- she worships celebrities, derives her life force from reality television, and uploads to her Simstagram religiously. With nearly 200k followers, clearly something’s working for her.

Val is the absolute essence of the color pink; she’s upbeat, naive, a romantic, and generally adores anything cutesy. No matter how masculine or handsome the guy, all she’ll want to do is... squish his cheeks. Sometimes, her extremely extroverted personality can border on irritating, so she’s best taken in small doses -- and remember, she means well.

To a spectator, there is likely no one more entertaining than Val. She’s endearingly-dumb, full of non-sequiturs and botched pronunciations, and a train of thought more convoluted than a maze in a cornfield. One time, outside of a DSV nightclub, a random homeless man was actually able to convince her that he was Adrian Stewart, and she posted a selfie with him; much to the ironic delight of her followers.

She might look like a Barbie doll, but she isn’t plastic. She cares a great deal about the people in her life, like her mother, father, and equally-as-nutty best friend Olivia. She wants to be on the Gianarette because she became positively enamored with Gian during his stint on Big Brother -- and she demands to squish his cheeks!

Outside of Barbie x Ken, which Barbie pairings are your favorites for the movies that are supposed to be Barbie as herself? (Weirdly specific I know but I'm curious)

Well I am a basic bitch so Barbie x Ken is still my OTP (btw Barbie is Bi and Ken is a transman), but after thinking it over here's what I think are my favorites:

Barbie x Patricia (Barbie: Spy Squad) - What I like about this one is just the pure angst I can see happening post-movie. Like, yes, Patricia was technically manipulated by Dunbar since she didn't know what the gems were for, but she still made the choice of being a thief-for-hire, and I can see her having this whole character arc of thinking she doesn't belong in the Squad and how she helped almost destroy the world and that makes her unworthy of Barbie's love (think Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks). But of course Barbie doesn't see her that way and knows she's a good person - after all, she did come back to help save the world as well. As for evidence in the movie itself, I mean she's literally flirting with Barbie as they're fighting, that's just classic.

Barbie x Isla (Barbie: Dolphin Magic): MERMAID. GF. Need I say more? Their interactions are just too cute. The looks they give each other when Isla teaches Barbie to swim like a mermaid? Super gay! And even with Ken there, Barbie just has so much more chemistry with Isla. I like to think Isla would have been Barbie's first relationship before she and Ken got together later in life. This pairing is actually probably my favorite outside of Barbie x Ken.

Yeah it's only two pairings, sorry about that. If there were a few more movies with Barbie playing herself I might have more material to work with. I mean there's Barbie x Raquelle too, but I don't really ship that romantically as much as some others (but their forgiveness arc is so well done!!). Actually, I might prefer Ken x Barbie x Raquelle a bit more than that, but maybe I'll make another post about that later.

what'd be your top 5 fav barbie movies and/or vlogs? im curious! bc i wanna get into newer barbie content bc she's just so nostalgia inducing for me :')

Barbie is honestly… nostalgia in a bottle!! I remember when I was young, I owned soooo many barbies ansndfn my favorite one was the rapunzel doll :’)

I watched sooo many of the old barbie movies but my memory isn’t the best, hence my new goal to rewatch them all, but I will include a few on the list! It will be in no specific order, just… my top five!!

1. Barbie as Rapunzel

I can’t just not mention that one! It was the first Barbie movie I ever watched!! Ever since I’m able to hold a pencil I always draw, so to see a movie using art as a plot point was marvelous! The scene in which she paints her dress is A++

2. Barbie Dolphin Magic

I believe this movie is the most recent! A lot of Barbie fans tend to overlook the new content and focus on older stuff, but why not enjoy both, right? Ken is a HUGE DORK in this movie and Barbie’s friendship (the movie portrays it as a friendship but…… come on) with Isla the mermaid is just wonderful! The movie also spreads the message to protect the ocean as much as we can, and I think that’s wonderful!

3. Barbie and Ken Love The Ocean Vlog

If you need to know one thing about me, it’s that I love the ocean. I basically grew up surrounded with water, and I just feel so close to it and the animals it holds, so when I saw this vlog on my recommendations I knew I would like it. And I did! I think it is super important to watch over the ocean, and this video does an amazing job at gaining people’s interests and encouraging them to help as much as they can.

I also can’t deny this vlog has an adorable Barbie x Ken interaction in the beginning ansdnfn

4. Finding Your Voice Vlog

I cannot stress just how important this vlog is. Just… ok, we can’t deny that Barbie’s target audience is young girls, and to have Barbie talk about sexism is super, super important. Do I even need to explain? Watch it, it’s honestly amazing.

5. International Talk Like A Pirate Day Vlog

I LOVE Ken and Barbie and seeing them do a vlog together makes me so happy!! Watching them goof around in this one was truly healing and it never fails to make me smile.

So… yeah, that would be my top five! Of course, I love many more vlogs, but to list them all would be writing a novel ansndfn

Wrestling Inspiration

As part of the wrestling AU, @scream-qween and I were talking about the different kids and wrestlers who could have served as inspiration for them. Let’s pretend for a second the WWE exists in this universe. Other wrestler suggestions are welcome, I’m just picking ones I’m familiar with (and I’m relatively new to wrestling - I’ve only watched for two years and only watched WWE).

Note: I am referring to the wrestlers as in their kayfabe personas. Any mention of them here should not be read as an endorsem*nt of anything they may have said or done elsewhere.

Like it or loathe it, Botox, fillers and other nonsurgical procedures are becoming the new beauty norm. After all, it’s your face, your choice – right? GLAMOUR reports…

It’s August 2017 and Jennifer, 27, is on her best mate’s hen do. “Cheers!” cries the bride-to-be, in the centre of the room. But instead of quaffing a glass of bubbly, she leans back and closes her eyes as a woman poises a needle at the side of her forehead. Wait, what the? “It was a Botox party,” Jennifer explains, adding that, since then, she’s had one additional Botox treatment at a London clinic. “I wear sunscreen, I buy face creams. To me, Botox is the next step and it’s now part of my beauty routine.”

The new normal?

Jennifer isn’t alone. Research shows a huge upsurge in twentysomethings getting injectables in the form of Botox and lip augmentation, as well as nonsurgical enhancements, including dermal fillers and jawline reshaping. Over half (51%) of women aged 16-29 would consider getting cosmetic enhancements either now, or in the future* – and by 2020, it’s believed that almost 1.5 million of us in the UK will have had a nonsurgical treatment such as Botox or fillers.

“I consider getting Botox as just good grooming – it’s like flossing my teeth,” says Eden, 24, from Edinburgh.

Generation X may raise their eyebrows – or would, if their eyebrows could move. Because one of the reasons so many millennials are exploring nonsurgical procedures is because their mums are doing it, or have done it, too. “We see a lot of mother-daughter pairs in our office,” says Dr Norman Rowe, a board-certified plastic surgeon with a practice in New York City. And for some of the daughters, the motivation is getting a step ahead of the ageing process. “People start earlier,” agrees Dr Tijion Esho, who runs the Esho clinics in Newcastle and London.

“In the past, you might not consider these treatments until your mid-forties, now women in their twenties are more aware of the ageing process and are doing things to halt it.” Women like Emilijia, 28, from Norwich. “Instead of forking out hundreds on expensive creams that might not work, I know Botox can stop my frown lines getting any deeper. I don’t fear ageing but I also don’t accept that ageing has to mean resigning yourself to everything nature does to our appearance.” Not only that, but for Gen Z and millennials who have grown up seeing a dermatologist, using skin creams and having spa appointments such as lash tints and facials, fillers and injectables have become the next logical step.

“Millennials are more open to cosmetic procedures than any other generational group,” says Jack Duckett, senior consumer lifestyles analyst at global market-research agency Mintel. Its most recent report found that 28% of 18- to 24-year-olds and 31% of 25- to 34-year-olds have had some form of cosmetic treatment (compared with an average of just 21% for the whole UK population). “This age group is more knowledgeable about nonsurgical treatments, and what can be achieved with them,” says Dr Rekha Tailor, medical director of health and aesthetics in Surrey. Advances in technology have also led to subtler results, which in turn means less stigma surrounding injectables. “People are starting to realise that Botox and fillers can be done and still give the person a natural appearance,” says Dr Rowe.

Of course, it’s easy to pin the rise of interest in cosmetic tweaks on Instagram. “I feel social media has imbued this very specific, Barbie-esque aesthetic with big lips and a sculpted face,” says Caroline, 27, from Swansea. But your feed might not be telling the whole story. Make no mistake: scrolling through a well-curated account can make us compare our looks, but experts point to a wider shift in cultural norms.

‘Airbrushing’ apps such as Facetune, as well as the contouring make-up trend, can give people a glimpse into what fillers or Botox could do to their faces. “Contouring made me really aware of my angles, and to be honest, getting fillers was a less labour-intensive solution,” says Isla, 27, from Bristol. But Isla is quick to point out she isn’t turning to treatments to raise her self-esteem: “It’s just a look I prefer, the same as I prefer plucked eyebrows and straightened hair.” That, say experts, is the key change in attitude from earlier generations. “Patients used to bring in images of celebrities as a reference; now more and more patients show us airbrushed and retouched pictures of themselves as a guide to how they want to look,” says Dr Jean-Louis Sebagh, a world-renowned cosmetic doctor with a clinic in London.

In the ‘90s and early part of the millennium, cosmetic treatments were kept hush-hush for two reasons. First, the effect was often far less subtle. Second, plastic-surgery procedures were sometimes seen as admitting failure; that your body didn’t live up to a ‘perfect’ look. Today, it appears perceptions have changed.

The hashtag #lipfillers has nearly 300,000 posts on Instagram (as a point of comparison, #stretchmarkremoval has only around 4,000) and for some women, injectables have become another way to claim their body as their own.

Celebs play a part, too, in the way even conventionally attractive names, like Kylie Jenner and the Kardashian sisters have been open about their use of cosmetic enhancements. No longer do celebs ‘admit’ to having a procedure; they openly share their routine, which makes cosmetic augmentation seem simultaneously aspirational and part of the everyday beauty conversation. (‘If she’s already pretty and admits to it, then what’s the big deal in me trying it?’) “When super-confident people like Cardi B are open about cosmetic work, it stops being something ‘embarrassing’,” says Jeni, 23, from London. “It makes waves. It means someone like me feels empowered. If I want work done in the future, then I will.” It’s also less about the celebrity’s specific look that some young women aspire to, and more about their lifestyle.

While most of us may not be able to afford to live like a Kardashian, the face has become one thing women are using their money to invest in, if they so wish. At around £150-£350 per session, depending on the amount of product used and where in the country you have it done, Botox and dermal fillers have become “a normal activity for people with expendable income,” says Miami-based plastic surgeon Dr Rian Maercks.

Take Annabelle, 26, from Edinburgh, for example, who gets lip fillers every six months. “I’m not the type to buy an expensive purse that I won’t use in a year or so. For me, fillers and Botox are much more of a sure thing. I think it’s the same as paying for a gym membership; it’s something that gives you value every day.” Like Annabelle, many millennials consider nonsurgical procedures just another necessary expense, the same way women ten years ago may have juggled their budget to pay for a Brazilian bikini wax. “I sometimes have to push all my bills around in that month to pay for it,” says Jay, 30, from Manchester. “But it’s worth it and it’s my decision to make.”

Danger zones

While many women feel it’s had a positive effect, there is of course a dark side to the rise of cosmetic enhancements being performed. One thing practitioners stress to their patients, regardless of age? “Nonsurgical does not mean no risk,” warns Dr Mary O’Brien, a consultant plastic and hand surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital. Experts worry that the lack of regulation in the industry (Botox must be administered by a medical professional, but anyone can potentially get their hands on fillers and there is no minimum age limit or parental consent required in the UK) could lead to negative results.

“There is sadly an increasing number of unscrupulous providers working in the UK aesthetics industry who are offering cheaper prices for counterfeit, unregulated or diluted products, which are then administered by untrained, unqualified people,” says Dr Shirin Lakhani of Elite Aesthetics in Kent. Dr Lakhani frequently sees patients dealing with complications from past procedures. “Often they have been naïve and opted for cheaper price over quality.” Dr Lakhani and other plastic surgeons stress that procedures are generally safe, as long as you see a qualified practitioner – preferably one who is a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Practitioners (BAAPS).
