Checking and Replacing Fuses

Fuses and circuit breakers protect your vehicle’s electrical system from overloading. If electrical parts in your vehicle are not working, the system may have been overloaded and blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Before you replace or repair any electrical parts, check the appropriate fuses or circuit breakers.

To check a fuse, look at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the fuse.

Notice

  • Before replacing fuses check that the key has been removed from the ignition and that all the services are switched off and/or disengaged.
  • Always disconnect the battery before servicing high current fuses.
  • Always replace a fuse with one that has the specified amperage rating. Using a fuse with a higher amperage rating can cause severe wire damage and could start a fire.
  • Never replace a broken fuse with anything other than a new fuse. Use always an intact fuse of the same color.
  • To reduce the risk of electrical shock, always replace the cover to the power distribution box before reconnecting the battery or refilling fluid reservoirs.
  • If a fuse blows again contact a qualified service center.

Passenger Compartment Fuse Box

The fuse panel is on the right-hand side of the passenger footwell behind a trim panel.

Ford F150 (2015-2018) Fuse Diagram • FuseCheck.com (2)

Pull the panel toward you and swing it out away from the side to remove the trim panel. To reinstall it, line up the tabs with the grooves on the panel, then push it shut.

Press in the tabs on both sides of the cover, then pull the fuse box cover off to remove it. To reinstall the fuse box cover, place the top part of the cover on the fuse panel, then push the bottom part of the cover until you hear it click shut. Gently pull on the cover to make sure it is seated properly.

FAQs

Where is the fuse for the backup camera on a 2018 Ford f150? ›

The backup camera power fuse on your 2018 Ford F 150 is fuse #15 located in the underhood fuse panel I have enclosed the fuse panel layout with the fuse #15 location for you in the first link below. Fuse #15 provides power to the camera on the white /brown wire at pin #1 in the camera connector.

Where is the secondary fuse box? ›

The secondary under-hood fuse box is next to the battery. To open it, push the tabs as shown. If something electrical in your vehicle stops working, check for a blown fuse first. Determine from the chart on pages and , or the diagram on the fuse box lid, which fuse or fuses control that device.

Where are the fuses located? ›

Usually, you will find two fuse boxes in the car. One is located under the hood and the other is found in the dashboard or near the steering wheel. The fuse under the hood protects important engine components and accessories like battery, ECU and cooling fan.

Does a fuse control the radio? ›

If a fuse is blown, the car radio will have no power, so you won't hear any static, and the display screen likely won't be working either. Pretty much all modern audio setups have multiple fuses. If you have a factory/stock radio, locating the fuses should be as easy as consulting the instruction manual.

Why is my backup camera not working on my 2018 f150? ›

Like any other error with an electrical component in your truck, your backup camera's failure to function could be caused by a short or a blown fuse. In the case that it is a blown fuse, all you need to do is find the backup camera fuse in the fusebox and replace it.

What is the backup fuse? ›

The backup fuse protection is mainly used where the main protection of the adjacent circuit is unable to back up the main protection of the given circuit. The backup fuse helps us to control the maximum current in an electric circuit. The fuse wire melts and thereby breaks the continuity of a given electric circuit.

What causes a backup camera to stop working? ›

Damaged Hardware

One of the most common reasons for receiving blurry images or for a rear vision camera to stop working completely is related to hardware damage. If the lens, stabilizer, or any other component is broken, then you will experience problems.

What is a relay fuse? ›

Relays are commonly used to control high-voltage or high-current circuits with a low-voltage or low-current signal, such as a switch or a computer. The purpose of a fuse is to protect against dangerous conditions such as electrical fires and equipment damage caused by overcurrents.

Where is my main fuse? ›

The first thing to do is find your main fuse box (these days called a consumer unit), which will be in the same place as your electricity meter. They're often in the main hallway of a house, in a purpose-built cupboard.

What fuse controls the dashboard lights? ›

The instrument cluster fuse manages the dashboard gauge of a vehicle. It uses electricity from the car battery to power various electronic components of the dashboard such as the different warning lights, gauges, and alarm systems. They include but are not limited to the following: Speedometer.

How do I know if my truck fuse is blown? ›

The filament must be continuous from one terminal to the other for current to flow. If the filament is broken through, there's melting visible, or there are black or brown burn marks inside or on the outer portion of the fuse, it's an indication the fuse is blown. Use a circuit tester/test light or DVOM.

Where is the fuse box located in a truck? ›

Most vehicles have two fuse boxes, with one under the hood and the other in the cabin. You can usually find the other fuse box in the dashboard on the driver's side, but some manufacturers also place it below the glove box. If the interior fuse box isn't there, you can try checking the luggage compartment.
