Softball Finishes Competitive Weekend with Split Against Manchester - Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (2024)

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman softball team earned a split on Sunday against the Manchester University Spartans falling in game one 4-3, and winning game two 7-4.

The first game of the day was a competitive one. Rose-Hulman scored first after a single by Aubrey Smith brought in a run by Kennedy Michnewicz.

The Spartans answered with two runs in the third to take the lead 2-1. A double by Smith and double by Jadyn Winkler brought in two more runs to put Rose-Hulman back on top 3-2 in the sixth inning.

Manchester tied the game in the sixth to force the game into extra innings. The Spartans sealed the win with a base hit in the eighth to defeat the Fightin' Engineers.

Smith was credited the loss in the circle pitching the entire 7.1 innings with one strikeout.

Rose-Hulman bounced back in the second game of the day to split the doubleheader. The team got going early at the plate jumping to a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning after multiple base hits.

Michnewicz, Katelyn Sarvis, Jessica Newsom,and Kayla Schnippel all stepped up at the plate to drive in the runs and contribute to the strong start.

The Fightin' Engineers were able to take advantage of the early lead and hold off the Spartans comeback attempt in the seventh to earn their fifth conference win of the season.

Phoebe Worstell earned the win in the circle pitching the entire 7.0 innings with two strikeouts.

The team now stands at 18-10 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC. The Fighin' Engineers will return home to host Spalding on Thursday, April 18 at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
